What is the Limassol camerata?

The Limassol Camerata is the first professional regional orchestra in Cyprus. Following the long cultural tradition of the city of Limassol, Camerata enriches local artistic life, aiming to present various kinds of music: from all styles and epoques of classical, till Greek, tango, jazz or any other, where a string ensemble could take a place. Its members, recognized local artists, are aiming not only to perform the concerts, but also to develop the local audience and make it more open to various musical traditions.

The Premiera!

The first official concert of the Limassol Camerata was held in Rialto Theatre, on Saturday, 19 of April, 8:30pm. Conducted by Mr Roland Melia, the Camerata presented a multicultural  repertory which included classical works by Bach, Hendel, Sarasate, Dvorak, Cypriot compser Solon Michaelides, tango by D' Arienzo and Pugliese and jazz by Duke Ellington and Paul Desmond. Famous Cyprus soloist take a part: Margaria Elia (soprano), Ayse Karaoglan and Sorin Horlea (violins), George Krasides (saxophone), George Koulas (drums), Manolis Neophytou (piano) and Nenad Bogdanovic (accordion). The Mayor of Limassol, Mr. Andreas Christou gave a speach welcoming the initiative for funding of such an orchestra in our city.The hall of Rialto Theatre was almost full with music lovers from the whole Cyprus.
